discover BUDE
Just over the border from neighbouring Devon, the Cornish town of Bude is renowned for its wild Atlantic breakers, rugged coastline, unique Victorian heritage and famous seawater pool. A magnet for surfers, outdoor enthusiasts, foodies and families alike, Bude’s easy going charm and wide, sandy beaches make it one of North Cornwall’s coolest coastal towns.
THE TOWN
Combining Cornish charm with distinctive Victorian history, Bude (Cornwall’s most northerly town), is set around the mouth of the River Neet. Stroll along the canal and explore the many galleries and independent eateries, or visit Bude Castle for an insight into Bude’s maritime past and unique geology.
The calm waters of Bude Sea Pool are the perfect spot for children, overlooking the golden sands of Summerleaze Beach.
SEA & SPORTS
Bude is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. The town is famed for its consistent waves and laid-back beach vibe, making it a hotspot for surfers of all abilities—Crooklets and Summerleaze beaches offer year-round swell with surf schools and board hire available.
For a more relaxed pace, the Bude & North Cornwall Golf Club welcomes visitors to its scenic 18-hole links course with views stretching across the dunes. Next door to the Old Bakery, the Bude Haven Recreation Ground offer tennis, bowls, squash and crazy golf.
FOOD & DRINK
With its host of independent shops, restaurants, quirky tea rooms and vibrant beachfront cafes, Bude has a lively food scene and plays host to some of Cornwall’s most unique artisan producers.
Enjoy dinner with a view at Life’s a Beach, or try before you buy at North Coast Wine Lounge - two our our favourite haunts. After a long day on the beach, visit the Lansdown Dairy and Moores Butchers to stock up on Cornish produce for an al-fresco BBQ.
Family fun
With its sandy beaches, tidal sea pool, and miles of coastal paths, Bude is packed with wholesome family fun and old-school holiday charm. Spend your days rock-pooling at Crooklets, bodyboarding at Summerleaze, or crabbing along the canal. Hire bikes and explore the scenic cycle trails, or let little ones run wild at the Pirate Play Park. For rainy day adventures, there’s soft play, bowling and the Castle Museum. After a busy day exploring, head back to The Old Bakery for board games, BBQs, and bedtime stories by the sea.
THE ATLANTIC COAST
Once the domain of shipwrecks and smugglers, today Bude’s Atlantic coastline is a playground for surfers, hikers and ocean-going thrill seekers. Walk the South West Coast Path along the rugged cliffs and take to the waves and try your hand at surfing, coasteering or stand up paddle boarding.
Further afield you’ll find the quintessentially Cornish village of Port Isaac, the ruins of Tingtagel Castle, or hop over the border into Devon to explore Lundy Island and the cliffside village of Clovelly.
A fantastic house, very comfortable, clean and tidy and had everything we needed. A truly amazing location, short walk to the beach and also the shops, cafes and restaurants of Bude.
We had a wonderful stay, I would recommend this house without hesitation. It’s a gorgeous, well looked after property in a brilliant location.
